A Brief History

The land that is now Westlake was part of the Seminole Improvement District (SID) — an agricultural drainage district established in the early 1960s. In September 2013, Minto Communities purchased roughly 3,800 acres for $51 million, and development began in 2014. The City of Westlake was officially incorporated on June 22, 2016, becoming the 39th municipality in Palm Beach County.

The name "Westlake" is partly a nod to Weston in Broward County — a similarly large-scale planned community — and reflects the many artificial lakes throughout the city.
