City Government & Leadership

Westlake is governed by an elected City Council. As of 2026, Mayor JohnPaul O'Connor and Vice Mayor Greg Langowski lead the council. Both were honored with the 2026 Home Rule Hero Award from the Florida League of Cities — a recognition of advocacy for local government authority.

Mayor O'Connor was also installed as President of the Palm Beach County League of Cities in May 2026, giving Westlake a stronger voice in county-level decisions.

New City Hall Coming

In May 2026, the City of Westlake and Westlake Community Foundation received the 2026 Housing Impact Award from the Palm Beach County Housing Leadership Council — recognizing their work on the HAPPY Program (Homebuyer Assistance Program) for first-time buyers. The program helps cover down payment and closing costs for qualifying homebuyers purchasing a new home in Westlake. Guidelines were updated in June 2026.

New Schools

West Community Elementary School — Westlake's first public K-5 school — broke ground in spring 2026. Principal Darline Winewski was appointed in May 2026. The school is expected to open in Fall 2027, serving Westlake families who currently commute to schools in surrounding communities.

Major Retail & Commercial Development
